A 2003 Saturn Ion is a mid size coupe with a V6 engine. The oil pan is located on the bottom of the engine. The oil filter will need to be changed as well. The oil filter is located on the right side of the oil pan on the oil pump. The oil filter is screwed into the oil pump. You will need to get under the engine to complete this job. Changing the oil should take you about 20 minutes.
Raise the Ion's front end off of the ground and rest it on 2 jack stands. Get under the engine and position an oil drain pan under the oil pan drain plug. Remove the plug using the ratchet set. Let the engine oil drain from the oil pan. Replace the oil pan drain plug.
Twist off the oil filter. Turn the oil filter in a counter clockwise motion until the oil filter comes off of the engine.
Pour new engine oil into the new oil filter until the oil filter is full. Twist the new oil filter onto the engine tightly .
Remove the oil drain pan from underneath the engine. Raise the front end using the jack and remove the jack stands. Lower the front end to the ground.
Open the hood and remove the cap oil cap from the top of the engine. Insert the oil funnel and pour 4 1/2 quarts of your desired engine oil into the engine's oil pan.
