How to Replace a Brake Light on a Honda Accord

The brake lights on your Honda Accord are a critical safety component. They are required to be working properly on all public roads. You should check them every 6 months to make sure that your lights haven't burned out. Replacement brake lights can be purchased from most auto parts stores. You'll need to have your old brake light so that you can purchase the correct sized replacement brake light. The part number you'll need for the new brake light is stamped on the base of the old light.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver
  • Open the trunk and pull up the luggage compartment carpet.

  • Pry off the trim cover that is covering the brake lights.

  • Unplug the electrical connector running to the brake light ballast.

  • Turn the brake light counterclockwise and pull it straight out of the brake light housing assembly to remove it.

  • Insert the new brake light and turn it clockwise to lock it into the housing.

  • Reconnect the electrical connector to the brake light ballast.

  • Snap the trim back into place.
