How to Remove the Rear View Mirror from My Nissan

The rear view mirror mounted on the windshield of your Nissan can be a vital part of the driving experience. Sometimes though, it can start to sag from general wear and tear, and end up not showing you any reflection other than of the ground. To fix the problem, you'll want to replace it with a new model, but first you have to remove it. In this case, the project vehicle is a 2006 Nissan Xterra.

Things You'll Need

  • 4mm flathead screwdriver
  • Sit inside of the vehicle and position yourself in the driver's seat. Look at the rear view mirror. If there is a piece of plastic trim going between the mirror and the headliner on the windshield, pinch it with your hand and remove it from the windshield.

  • Locate the small hole at the base of the rear view mirror, which points toward the dashboard. Slide the blade of the 4mm flathead screwdriver into the hole until you feel resistance at the other end.

  • Push the base of the screwdriver with one hand, then lift the mirror toward the headliner with the other. Slide the mirror off of the mount and unplug any wiring that may be plugged into the mirror.
