How to Replace the Power Steering Hose in a 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe

A malfunctioning power steering hose can affect the power steering and may damage other parts on a 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe. You can fix the problem by carefully following the steps below.

Things You'll Need

  • Plastic container
  • Wrench
  • New power steering hose
  • New power steering fluid
  • Open the Hyundai Santa Fe's hood and place the plastic container underneath the power steering pump located on the fire wall on the driver's side. The container will catch the fluid that drains from the pump and the power steering hose.

  • Use your wrench to loosen the securing nut on the input hose and pull the hose away from the power steering pump. Let the hose and pump drain into the plastic container for two to three minutes.

  • Follow the power steering hose underneath the vehicle to the power steering control valve. Loosen the nut at the end of the power hose with your wrench and pull the hose away from the control valve.

  • Place the new power steering hose into the power steering control valve and tighten the securing nut. Lead the new hose up into the engine bay and to the power steering pump. Connect the hose to the corresponding input on the pump and tighten the securing nut.

  • Remove the power steering pump cap and fill with new power steering fluid. Turn the steering wheel to the left and right a few times to get the new fluid circulating through the hose and other parts.
