The Volkswagen Passat comes in sedan and wagon form, with the latter having more room for cargo as well as increased rear-seat headroom. Because of the vertical orientation of the wagon’s rear window, it comes standard with a rear wiper to optimize visibility by keeping the windshield clear of dirt and the elements. If that wiper arm is broken, you will need to remove the wiper from the car entirely to fix the problem. Replacing the rear wiper shouldn’t take long and requires only a couple of tools.
Locate the small plastic cover at the base of the wiper arm on the back window. Place the flathead screwdriver between the cover and the surrounding arm, and gently pry the cover up and off the arm.
Unbolt the arm from the window glass using a 3/8-inch ratchet and socket.
Tilt the arm out by pulling on the blade section of the arm, then twist it back and forth to break the wiper arm free from the wiper linkage.
