Over time, plastic lenses on an automobile will develop a haze due to road grit, sun damage and general wear and tear. Cleaning this haze is important, as it diminishes the light's brightness and, in the case of fog lights affects the vehicle's safety. If the fog lights are dimmed by faded lamp lenses, they may not be visible to other drivers on the road. While manufacturers provide expensive solutions, you can employ a much simpler remedy at a fraction of the cost.
Inspect the fog light lamp lenses and locate any large pieces of debris. Use a plastic, flat-edged tool such as a putty knife to gently scrape off the debris.
Dip a clean corner of a cotton rag into a small dish of denatured alcohol. Rub the lens in a circular motion as if buffing a car with polish. Continue polishing the lens for 30 seconds and then rewet a clean corner of the rag and repeat the process. If the haze appears to get worse, that is simply the denatured alcohol drying. Wait five minutes for denatured alcohol to completely dry.
Take a second cotton rag and dip a corner into a can of standard car wax. Apply a thin layer of wax to the fog light lens and wait one minute before buffing it off with a clean corner of the rag.
