How to Change a C6 Headlight

"C6" is the internal codename for the sixth-generation Chevrolet Corvette, introduced in 2005 and scheduled to be replaced in 2012. The C6 continues the Corvette's traditional "inverted" or "flipback" hood style. Although this hood style makes accessing the engine bay easier, it makes accessing the headlights difficult. Only the high-beam headlight bulbs are user-accessible on your C6 Corvette. If your low-beams require replacement, visit your nearest Chevrolet dealer.

Things You'll Need

  • Bulb number H9
  • Turn your steering wheel (until it locks) to the opposite direction of the headlight you want to replace, and then turn your engine off.

  • Pry off the three fasteners from the front wheel well using a flat-head screwdriver, and pull the front wheel well cover back.

  • Twist off the plastic headlight access cover. Pull the headlight socket away from its mount.

  • Remove the old headlight bulb. Squeeze the tabs on the side to release it from the connection.

  • Attach the new headlight bulb, holding the new bulb by its plastic base. Push the connection and the bulb together until they snap.

  • Reinsert the bulb socket in its place, and replace the plastic access cover.

  • Push the front wheel well cover back in place, and then snap the fasteners back on to secure it.

  • Repeat the process (turning the steering wheel to the other side) to replace the other headlight, if needed.
