How to Remove Black Marks From Car Paint

It has happened to many of us after leaving our car in a parking lot. Upon return, we notice that somebody caused a black scuff mark on the car's finish. A scuff can cause a nice car to loose its sharp look, and it takes away from the appearance. It is possible to remove a mark from a vehicle's body yourself. It just takes a few items to get the scuff out without ruining the car's paint job.

Things You'll Need

  • Waterproof, ultra-fine grain, 2,000-grit sandpaper
  • Polishing compound
  • Clean cloth
  • Car wax
  • Wet a piece of ultra-fine, 2,000-grit, waterproof sandpaper lightly.

  • Gently rub the mark on the car with the sandpaper until it is gone. Don't rub too hard, or you could break through the clear coat of the paint finish.
    .

  • Apply a polishing compound, such as Turtle Wax, with a clean cloth. Gently put the polish evenly throughout the area to restore the vehicle's shine. Keep polishing until the shine of the clear coat returns.

  • Apply a small amount of car wax, such as Liquid Turtle Wax, using a clean cloth. Spread the wax evenly throughout the area.

  • Let the wax dry for about 30 minutes.

  • Buff the finish with a clean, soft cloth.
