The Volkswagen Jetta is a fun-to-drive compact car with plenty of room for passengers and hauling luggage. While the Jetta is normally very low-maintenance, it is sometimes necessary to replace a few key items along the way during your Jetta's lifespan. One such item is the clutch cable. The clutch cable connects the clutch pedal in the cab of the car with the bell housing in the engine compartment of the car. It controls the function of the clutch and the transmission function. Removing a frayed or broken clutch cable is fairly easy and should take only a few minutes.
Use the pliers to disconnect the end of the clutch cable from the back of the clutch pedal in the driver's side of the Jetta's cab.
Locate the bell housing under the engine compartment of the car and use the crescent wrenches to loosen the mounting bolts for the end of the clutch cable. Use the pliers to pull the cable out of the bell housing and through the firewall of the engine compartment.
Discard the old cable and insert the end of the new cable into the bell housing. Securely mount the cable with the crescent wrenches and then feed the cable back through the firewall and into the clutch pedal.
Attach the cable to the back of the clutch pedal with the pliers and then take the Jetta for a test drive.
