How to Fix a Side Mirror on a Ford Ranger

The side mirrors are an essential part of your Ford Ranger's safety features. Set and used properly, they eliminate blind spots and the need to turn your head to check the lane next to you when turning. Trucks can take a beating, and if the side mirror on your Ford Ranger becomes cracked, or the entire assembly is broken, you need to fix it as soon as possible.

Things You'll Need

  • Flat-head screwdriver
  • Acetone stripper
  • Rag
  • Mirror adhesive
  • Socket set
  • Look closely at the actual damage. Is it just the mirror that is broken or do you need to replace the entire assembly? If you need to replace the entire assembly, skip to Step 4.

  • Pry the broken mirror out of the assembly using a flat-head screwdriver. Put some acetone stripper on a clean rag and wipe it on any old adhesive still left on the assembly. Wait five minutes and then use your flat-head screwdriver to scrape any old adhesive off until the surface where the mirror is installed is clean.

Pry the Glass Out and Clean the Assembly
  • Coat the back of your new mirror with mirror adhesive (any brand from an auto store will do) and put a coat of adhesive on the plastic of the assembly where the mirror will go. Wait until both coats are tacky, then press the two together. Allow the adhesive to dry for 20 minutes before driving.

  • Open the door and remove the upper part of the door panel near the side mirror. The panel will either be clipped or screwed into place, and you can use a flat-head screwdriver to pry or unscrew the attaching hardware. Remove the panel.

The Panel That Covers the Mirror Bolts Is Seperate From the Door Panel
  • Unscrew the locking nuts off the two bolts from the side mirror and pull the side mirror from the car. Installation of your replacement is done by reversing Steps 5 and 6.
