How to Change a Dodge Avenger 120A Alternator Fuse

An alternator is an electrical device that charges the battery in your Dodge Avenger. Because of the high power output of the alternator, a fuse connected to the alternator wiring. The 120 amp alternator fuse will--as the name suggests--allow 120 amps to pass through the fuse before the fuse breaks and needs to be replaced. The fuse helps control power surges which could damage other electrical components in your Dodge Avenger. Occasionally, this fuse does pop, and when it does, you'll want to know how to change a Dodge Avenger 120A alternator fuse.

Things You'll Need

  • New 120 amp fuse
  • Philips head screwdriver
  • Socket wrench and socket set

The Steps

  • Open the hood and disconnect the negative cable from the battery. To do this, you'll need to loosen the nut on the negative lead cable clamp with a socket wrench. Turn the nut counterclockwise until the clamp loosens enough for you to slide the clamp off the negative terminal.

  • Locate the fuse box in the engine bay near the battery. Open the fuse box cover and locate the 120 Amp fuse (there is only one).

  • Remove the 2 screws holding the alternator fuse in place and pull the fuse out.

  • Insert the new fuse and reinsert and tighten the retaining screws.

  • Close the fuse box cover.

  • Reconnect the cable to the negative battery terminal.
