How to Replace the Taillights in a Lincoln Navigator

A broken taillight is a hazard to both you and other drivers on the road. Fortunately, with the right replacement bulb in hand, replacing the taillight on your Lincoln Navigator doesn't take long at all. It also doesn't require any special tools, so it's easy enough for most drivers to accomplish.

Things You'll Need

  • #4057 replacement bulb (2007 and later models)
  • #3157K replacement bulbs (2006 and earlier models)
  • Turn off your Navigator's engine, engage its emergency break and remove the keys from the ignition. Make sure the headlamp switch is set to "OFF."

  • Walk to the back of your Navigator and open the liftgate.

  • Remove the two screws holding the taillamp assembly to the rear pillar. Pull the assembly directly back from the pillar until it comes free.

  • Find the bulb socket holding the broken bulb. Once you've found it, twist it counter-clockwise and remove it from the assembly.

  • Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket and replace it with the new bulb.

  • Press the bulb socket into the taillamp assembly and turn it clockwise to secure its position.

  • Test the new bulb to make sure it works before screwing the assembly back onto the rear pillar and closing the liftgate.
