It is recommended to change your fuel filter every 12.000 miles. Or once a year wich ever one is shorter.
The fuel filter is always located in a fuel line.
To find your fuel filter, follow the fuel line away from your truck's carburator.
The Fule filter will be on the driver's side behind the driver's seat.
Before you start the work I suggest that you learn where is every part located, and to wear your safety glasses and gloves.
Changing the Fuel Filter could be a little bit challenging but I will guide you through.

If you have some jacks, jack your car to a moderate height, not to high to avoid any accidents.
Put your hand brake on and place something behind and in front of your back tires to prevent the truck from moving.
Disconnect the battery to allow the pressure to drain out of the gas line.
Before you put the new filter in make sure you put the mounting cover back on. Most of the time it snaps right on.
Make sure the flow arrow is pointing toward the right direction. The Flow arrow in locate on the filter.
Hold the hoses firmly and remove the clams using a pair of pliers. It would be better if you change the clamps to new ones so they will last longer.
Before you put the hose back slide the clamps out to the hoses.
Place your old filter in a place so that the fuel inside it wouldn't drip over.
Gently work the filter necks into the hoses and clamp them. If you have screw on clamps make sure you tighten them first.
Before you put the new filter in make sure you put the mounting cover back on. Most of the time it just snaps right on.
Your filter should be ready to work.
