How to Put Transmission Fluid in a Plymouth Voyager

Adding transmission fluid is relatively easy and can save you hundreds and thousands of dollars in costly repairs. Always having the correct amount of transmission fluid in your vehicle can also save you from being stranded on the side of the road. Here are the steps to add transmission fluid.

Things You'll Need

  • Transmission fluid (Dexron III)
  • Funnel
  • Vehicle
  • Paper towels

How to add automatic transmission fluid

  • Crank the engine and allow it to idle for 60 seconds then turn the engine off. Remove the dipstick (marked trans fluid) and check to see if the fluid is hot or warm. If hot, the fluid will be uncomfortable when held between finger and thumb. Wipe the dipstick clean with a paper towel or clean rag. Replace the dipstick and pull it out again and read where the fluid is according to if it was warm or hot.

  • Place a long funnel into the same hole the dipstick was removed from.

Use a long funnel to prevent spills and burns
  • Crank your engine and let it idle. Add fluid to bring to proper level. Allow fluid to drain from funnel for about a minute, then remove funnel, replace dipstick, then remove to check level of fluid. If more fluid is needed, replace funnel and add more. If fluid is at proper level, replace dipstick and turn off engine.
