Can I Use NGK Double Platinum Spark Plugs in My 2006 Honda Civic?

When you head to the parts store for a new set of spark plugs for your 2006 Civic, you will quickly notice that there are lots to choose from, ranging from basic copper plugs to iridium plugs. Some owners simply choose the plug that the manufacturer recommends, but this is not a requirement.

Spark Plug Recommendation

  • Honda recommends only two types of spark plugs for the 2006 Honda Civic, and they are NGK No. IZFR6K-11S and Denso No. SKJ20DR-M11S. These are both iridium spark plugs, which are a step above NGK double platinum plugs. Though they are not the direct equivalent to the manufacturer-recommended spark plug, you can still use double-platinums in your Civic. This may reduce the distance you can drive between spark plug changes, so inspect the plugs every 60,000 miles for carbon buildup, and that the gap has not expanded wider than 0.06 inch. If either of those two conditions exist, it is time to replace the spark plugs, regardless of the Civic's manufacturer-suggested maintenance schedule.
