Introduced in 2006, the Pontiac G6 is a mid-size convertible car manufactured by General Motors. Pontiac G6 convertibles can suffer operational problems that may often be resolved by following some basic troubleshooting techniques.
The power steering in a Pontiac G6 can lock up, resulting in difficulty turning the wheel. Low steering fluid, along with worn components in the power steering assembly, can cause power steering problems. Check the steering fluid level and top it off if low, and inspect the ball sockets and steering gears in the assembly for signs of wear and replace them as needed.
If the Pontiac G6 convertible top fails to open or gives excessive resistance, rust at the pivot points may be to blame. Spray the pivot points with WD-40 and wait a few minutes for it to penetrate, then remove the rust with a wire brush.
If the door ajar light stays illuminated in your Pontiac G6 convertible, one or more defective door pin switches may be to blame. Check the pin switch located on the mechanical lock in each door with an Ohm meter. Push the two pins on each switch in and out. If the Ohm meter detects no electrical resistance, replace the switch.
