How to Replace the Running Lights in a 2002 Tahoe

As any vehicle owner knows, cars require regular maintenance in order to run smoothly. Part of the regular vehicle maintenance work involves the replacement of headlamps, turn signals, side marker lights, running lights and tail lamps. The 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe is no exception. Luckily, replacing the daytime running lamps only takes a few minutes; and doing the job yourself can save you time and money.

  • Open the hood of the vehicle. Remove the headlamp assembly by rotating the retainer pins on the top of the headlamp. Rotate the outer pin outward, and the inner pin inward, then pull them straight out.

  • Pull the entire headlamp assembly away from the vehicle, then unplug the wire harness to completely remove it.

  • Find the retainer clip located behind the turn signal/sidemarker/daytime running lamp assembly. Press the retainer clip toward the outside of the vehicle, then pull the lamp assembly out.

  • Find the daytime running lamp socket and rotate it counterclockwise to disengage it. Pull the socket and bulb out of the housing, then pull the old bulb directly out of the socket. Replace the old bulb with a new one by inserting it into the socket.

  • Insert the socket into the lamp housing and rotate it clockwise to lock it in place. Place the lamp housing back onto the vehicle, making sure to line up the hooks and holes that align it in place. Push in the lamp housing, until you hear a click.

  • Reconnect the wire harness to the headlamp assembly, and place it back on the vehicle. Secure the headlamp assembly, using the two pins that you previously removed. Insert the pins into the holes and rotate them (inward for the outer pin and outward for the inward pin) to tighten them.

  • Close the hood and test the new daytime running lamp bulb.
