Types of Car Maintenance

Owning a car doesn't just come with the perks of driving your very own vehicle, there is plenty of maintenance that must be done routinely on a car. It is very importantly to maintain your car, as that will extend the life and quality of the vehicle. No matter which kind or brand of car you drive, regular maintenance such as oil changes and brake checks should be performed.

Oil Changes

  • Some of the most routine and regular maintenance that should be done on any vehicle is an oil change. Most mechanics and service departments would suggest getting an oil change every 3,000 miles, as it helps extend the life of your engine. In addition, oil changes prevent piston rings from getting stuck as well as oil passages from becoming plugged. Most service departments can perform an oil change in about half an hour.

Changing Brake Fluid

  • Known as one of the most neglected portions of car maintenance, it is very important to have your car's brake fluid replaced every year or two. Changing your brake fluid will extend the life of your brakes, and also ensure that your brakes do not fail, especially when you need them most. When brake fluid is not changed, it becomes contaminated over time and can cause your brakes to fail.

Tune-Up

  • A tune-up is a recommended regular maintenance procedure, as it ensures your car and engine are functioning properly. In general, an engine inspection is performed to ensure that it functions. It is hooked up to a diagnostic analyzer which inspects the fuel, ignition and emission systems. A computer scan may also be done to check on the car's electronic sensor and exhaust system wear. A tune-up should be performed about every 30,000 miles.
