My Chevy Ignition Key Won't Turn the Engine Off

Chevrolet is an American manufacturer of automobiles, including sedans, sports cars, trucks and minivans. Depending on your vehicle model and year, you may have an ignition key that powers and starts your vehicle or your vehicle may use a keyless, push smart system to power and start. To turn off a running vehicle, the car must be in the park position. If the car is in any other position, it will not turn off. It's also possible for the ignition key to temporarily get stuck in the key cylinder due to the steering wheel locking.

  • Move the shift lever to the park position. Make sure the lever is not between gears.

  • Jiggle the key to loosen it from the key cylinder.

  • Turn the key from the "on" position to the "off" position.
