What Is an E3 Spark Plug?

The E3 spark plug is an aftermarket spark plug produced for automobiles, motor boats, ATVs and other vehicles. The manufacturer of E3 spark plugs claims the spark plugs will increase engine power, engine life and fuel efficiency while reducing emissions.

Design

  • The most important design element of the E3 spark plug that differentiates it from other spark plugs is the shape of the electrode. A traditional spark plug uses an electrode made from one thin strip of metal. The E3 spark plug uses an electrode that uses a larger piece of metal that attaches at three points and creates a diamond shape. The manufacturer states this shape provides more efficient ignition.

Performance

  • The E3 spark plug is designed to increase an engine's performance in a number of ways, including horsepower and fuel efficiency. Testing by PowerBlock TV did show some evidence these claims are valid, particularly an increase in horsepower and reduction in emissions.

Cost

  • E3 spark plugs cost about $6 per plug, which is more than twice the cost of standard spark plugs. However, only a small gain in fuel efficiency over the life of the spark plug would be needed to make up for this cost.
