How to Manually Retract a Mercedes Sunroof

Retracting a sunroof manually is an important procedure to know if your electrical system fails for any reason and the sunroof of your Mercedes is open at the time. Your car comes equipped with a small Allen wrench designed specifically for this purpose. The keyhole for the Allen wrench is typically housed in the same casing as the front interior dome lights on your Mercedes.

Things You'll Need

  • Allen wrench
  • Flat-head screwdriver
  • Locate the Allen wrench included with your Mercedes. A common location is inside the glove box.

  • Pry off the plastic casing surrounding your front interior dome light, using the screwdriver. Set the casing aside. Start prying from one of the edges of the plastic or insert the screwdriver into the designated notch, if your interior light is equipped with one.

  • Insert the Allen wrench into the keyhole that is revealed after the light housing is removed.

  • Turn the Allen wrench clockwise to close the sunroof if it is fully open. If the sunroof is in an angled position, turn the wrench counterclockwise to close it and make the sunroof flush with the roof.
