How to Put on Rear License Plates

Mounting a rear license plate on a car is a simple process. Assuming that you are not missing any necessary parts, the task should not take longer than a few minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • Mounting bolts
  • Frame (optional)
  • Phillips or flat-head screwdriver
  • Unscrew the mounting bolts attached to the rear bumper of the car. In most cases, there will only be two screws at the top, but some cars will have four. Remove the old license plate if there is one.

  • Place the license plate in a frame, if you're using one. It is not necessary to have a frame.

  • Place the license plate flat against the rear bumper and align the holes in the plate with the threaded screw holes on the car.

  • Screw all of the bolts in first with your hand and then use the screwdriver to ensure the plate fits tightly against the bumper.
