How to Rotate Tires on a Subaru Forester

The Subaru Forester is an all-wheel-drive crossover SUV that appeals to those wanting the practicality of a sports utility vehicle without the large size. The Forester is a safe, reliable car. Like all vehicles, the tires on the Forester should be rotated regularly to ensure even wear and a long life. Rotating the tires is an easy process that involves switching the wheels and tires in an X pattern so that the rear tires are moved to the front, and the fronts are moved to the rear and opposite side of the vehicle.

Things You'll Need

  • Floor jack
  • Lug wrench
  • Jack stands
  • Park the vehicle on a flat surface. Loosen the lug nuts for all four wheels with a lug wrench. Lift one side of the vehicle at a time with a floor jack and lower the Forester onto jack stands at all four corners.

  • Remove all four wheels. Leave each one next to where it was on the car so that you know where it was located.

  • Move the tire that was on the right rear of the Forester to the right front wheel hub and install it there. Attach the lug nuts and tighten by hand.

  • Move the tire that was on the right front to the left rear wheel hub and install it there. Attach the lug nuts and tighten by hand.

  • Move the tire that was on the left front to the right rear wheel hub and install it there. Attach the lug nuts and tighten by hand.

  • Move the tire that was on the left rear to the left front wheel hub and install it there. Attach the lug nuts and tighten by hand.

  • Tighten the lug nuts on all the wheels with the lug wrench. Raise the Forester above the jack stands. Remove the jack stands and lower the Subaru to the ground.
