Bosch manufactures one of the most popular, premium brands of replacement windshield wiper blades on the auto-parts market. As of 2010 and depending on your vehicle, you could expect to pay between $20 and $25 for a replacement blade, each specially designed not to have metal brackets, hinges or joints. The company says its blades, particularly its top-selling ICON brand, last 20 percent longer than rivals' products. When your old blades begin to fray, replacing them with Bosch blades can be done by any do-it-yourselfer and should take no longer than five minutes.
Begin with the driver's-side wiper and lift the wiper arm up from the windshield. (Consult your vehicle owner's manual to determine whether the car or truck wipers need to be activated and put in a perpendicular position before the installation process can begin.) Place a towel on the windshield where the arm normally would rest to protect the windshield glass from possibly being scratched or cracked.
Put one hand on the wiper arm and another hand on the wiper blade. Push the blade down toward you until it unsnaps from the wiper arm. Position the wiper arm on the towel against the windshield while you discard the old blade.
Remove the Bosch blade from the package. Put pressure on both sides of the adapter housing on the back, middle part of the blade and pull the housing lever back. Poke the wiper arm through the opening of the blade's adapter housing. Hook the wiper blade onto the arm until it snaps.
Flip the housing lever back into place on the back of the blade. Take the towel off the windshield and gently maneuver the wiper arm back into its original position. Undertake the same steps to change the passenger-side blade.
