How do I Fix a Stripped Windshield Wiper?

Your car's windshield wipers can become stripped because of constant movement while in operation during wet months, or because they dry and and crack due to inactivity during warm months. A lot of pressure is placed on the clip in the center of the wiper arm when the arm is moving across the windshield, which can strip the connector, causing the arm to become loose and even fall off while in operation. You can fix stripped windshield wipers yourself by replacing the windshield wiper arms, saving you time and money.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver
  • Lift up the wiper blade arm so it is sitting away from the windshield. Locate the metal clip in the center of the wiper blade arm, lifting the clip up with a screwdriver.

  • Slide the wiper blade arm sideways to remove it from the retaining pin on the windshield motor arm. Dispose of the old wiper blade arm.

  • Set the new wiper blade arm with the new windshield wiper blade on the retaining pin of the windshield motor arm.

  • Close the metal clip on the center of the wiper blade to lock the blade onto the windshield motor arm.
