When you notice the transmission in your 2001 Isuzu Rodeo jumping, hesitating or not shifting properly, it may be low on fluid. Although there is no dipstick under the hood to check the transmission fluid level in the 2001 Rodeo, you can check the fluid in your manual or automatic transmission at home in minutes. Isuzu recommends using Dextron 3 transmission fluid in your Rodeo.
Lift your Rodeo with a jack and secure the vehicle on a set of jack stands.
Locate the transmission at the base of the engine, halfway down the drive train. Find the fluid fill plug in the upper rear corner of the transmission.
Insert a ratchet extension into the square on the plug and remove it. Insert your little finger into the hole and feel for the top of the fluid level. The fluid level should be even with the bottom of the hole.
Insert the squeeze tip of a transmission oil bottle into the hole and squeeze the fluid into the transmission until the fluid level reaches the bottom of the hole.
Replace the drain plug and tighten it securely with the ratchet extension. Raise the vehicle with the jack and remove the jack stands. Lower the vehicle to the ground.
