How to Change the Air Filter in a 2005 Honda Civic

On the 2005 Honda Civic the air filter is located inside a plastic compartment in the engine compartment. The air filter compartment has "Air Filter" stamped on the top of the lid in bold letters. Two screws secure the lid in place.

Things You'll Need

  • New air filter
  • Open the Honda Civic's hood and locate the black plastic air filter compartment on the passenger side of the engine. Locate the two screws securing the lid in place, on the right and left side of the air filter compartment.

  • Remove the securing screws from the air filter compartment using the ratchet set. Disconnect the plastic locking tabs and pull the air filter compartment lid off the compartment.

  • Pull the old air filter out of the air filter housing and throw the old air filter in the trash. Clean the inside of the air filter compartment with a shop rag and warm water.

  • Place the new air filter into the air filter housing. Replace the air filter compartment lid on the air filter compartment. Lock the plastic locking tabs and replace the securing screws to the lid. Tighten the securing screw using the ratchet set.
