A few European car manufacturers started making radio antennas that were a bit less traditional in the late '90s so as to support cell phones, satellite radio and other new media formats. Unfortunately, over time, exposure to harsh elements can break down the rubber on these antennas, which means they need to be replaced. On a Saab, this is not a difficult process, but does require some extra effort to get to the antenna mount.
Fold down the rear seats, then position yourself so that you are looking at the rear deck lid in the car. Push in the middle of the three clips on the leading edge of the rear deck lid, then pull the rear deck lid out of the car.
Use the flathead screwdriver to pop off the covers that read "Airbag" on the rear C-pillars of the car. Unbolt the bolt underneath the cover using a 3/8-inch ratchet and socket, then pull the panels off the rear of the car.
Locate the brake light cover on the driver's side of the car and pull the bottom edge out and slide it down out of the way. There is also a clip in the center of the rear of the headliner, the upholstered cardboard insert on the roof of the car. Pull it down to loosen the rear part of the headliner.
Unbolt the antenna lead from the roof using an open-end wrench. Then slowly pull the antenna out of the roof and disconnect the lead using your hands.
