How to Replace an air Filter in a Dodge Ram

Replacing the air filter in a Dodge Ram is one of the easiest maintenance procedures. Clean air filters extend the life of the engine and help a car get better gas mileage because the engine does not have to work as hard with a clean filter. Air filters should be changed every 30,000 miles unless the vehicle is driven in extreme conditions, then it should be changed every 3,000 miles.

Things You'll Need

  • New air filter
  • Turn the car off and leave it off while you are changing the filter. Open and prop the hood of the car.

  • Locate the air filter; it is a black plastic box. Look on the passenger side of the car near the windshield, the air filter housing box will be right by the side frame.

  • Open the filter housing unit by unclip or unscrewing the fasteners. Remove the lid from the box.

  • Take the filter out of the container and discard it. Clean out any remaining debris left in the Dodge's housing box.

  • Put the new filter in the box. Use a K&N filter number K33332247 for a 2003 to 2008 Dodge Ram 1500, 2500 or 3500. Find the type of air filter you need for older models at your local auto supply store or online (see Resources).

  • Replace the lid on the Dodge Ram air filter housing box. Secure the lid in place by reattaching the clips or screws.
