How to Change the Oil on a 2007 Chrysler 300 2.7L

The 2007 Chrysler 300 with the 2.7-liter 6-cylinder engine was designed to go extended periods between oil changes through the use of synthetic SAE 5W-20 motor oil. You can use oil additives at every oil change along with the recommended synthetic oil to improve the quality of your engine seals. You should change the oil between 3,000 and 6,000 miles, depending on your driving habits. If you do a lot of hard driving or you are on dirt roads frequently, you should change your oil at least every 3,000 miles.

Things You'll Need

  • Car ramps
  • Socket wrench
  • Torque wrench
  • Filter wrench
  • Oil bucket
  • 6 qts. synthetic SAE 5W-20 motor oil
  • Oil Filter
  • Drive your Chrysler 300 onto the car ramps. Place the engine in park and turn off the engine. Engage the emergency brake. Raise the hood and prop it open. Allow the engine to cool down before changing the oil.

  • Slide the oil bucket beneath the drain plug on the bottom of the oil pan, toward the back of the engine.

  • Remove the oil plug with a socket wrench. Inspect the plug for damage and replace as necessary. Replacement drain plugs are available at any auto parts retailer. Install the plug when the oil is done draining. Tighten the plug to 20 ft.-lbs. of torque with a torque wrench.

  • Remove the oil filter from the passenger's side of the engine, just above the oil pan. Make sure the old gasket is removed with the filter. Apply some fresh oil to the gasket on the new filter. Hand-tighten the filter, then give it another quarter turn.

  • Remove the oil fill cap and add 6 quarts of oil. Replace the fill cap. Start the engine and allow it to run for two minutes. Watch the drain plug and filter and check for leaks. Leaks indicate a damaged gasket or a loose filter or plug. Turn off the engine. Check the oil level with the dipstick. Fill as necessary.

  • Close the hood. Back the Chrysler 300 off the ramps.
