How to Reset a 2007 Ford Expedition Oil Percentage Indicator

Most newer vehicles now have oil life indicators. This indicator is run by a computer system that calculates oil change intervals by taking into account your driving style, driving conditions and other variables. Many times, drivers believe that the system "reads" the oil condition and alerts the driver. This causes some confusion when the oil is changed and the light remains. The light doesn't reset automatically, so you have to reset the oil percentage indicator manually. This is a relatively simple task that can be completed in just a few minutes on a 2007 Ford Expedition.

Things You'll Need

  • Ignition key
  • Insert the key into the ignition.

  • Turn the key to the "run" position, but do not start the vehicle.

  • Press and release the reset stem until "Oil Life = XXX% Hold Reset = New" is displayed. The reset stem is the round button under the information display.

  • Press and hold the reset stem for approximately two seconds. The system now displays "Oil life set to 100%."

  • Turn the ignition off and remove the key.
