Frequent checks of your Camry's automatic transmission fluid will go a long way toward protecting the vehicle's long-term viability. The transmission allows the Camry to seamlessly switch gears, and the fluid does part of the work. The process of checking your car's automatic transmission fluid isn't hard. The transmission's dipstick will tell you the level of fluid and give an idea of how much is needed. Transmission fluid should lie at or somewhat above the "FILL" arrow, located near the bottom end of the dipstick.
Park your car on level ground and unlatch the hood. Get out of the car while allowing it to run for a few minutes. You'll want to check your Camry's transmission fluid with the engine running, the transmission in "Park" and the engine and transmission warm.
Open and secure the hood of the car. Locate the transmission dipstick located in front of the Camry's engine.
Pull the dipstick and wipe it clean with a rag. Place it back in the transmission, seat it fully, and remove it once more, this time checking for levels.
Pour fluid directly into the hole where you pulled the dipstick if the oil level was below the "FILL" line. Use a funnel. Estimate how much to pour based on your reading, but you should never need to add more than a quarter of a bottle.
Replace the dipstick and close the hood once you've determined the transmission has the right amount of fluid.
