The 2014 Ford Escape has undergone a huge transformation since its debut in 2001, as it morphed from essentially a downsized Explorer into a sporty and stylish compact SUV with aggressive lines and sedan-like handling. The line of engines in the 2014 Escape range from the tame, 168-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-pot to the peppier, turbocharged 1.6-liter, and top out with the rather wild, turbocharged 2.0-liter with 240 ponies and 270 foot-pounds of twist. Regardless of how timid or wild your Escape may be, it has an oil life system reminder that alerts you when the oil needs changing, and you need to reset this system after each change so you can stay on schedule.
Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the "On" position without starting the engine. If your Escape has push-button start, press and hold the " Start" for two seconds without touching the brake pedal -- touching the brake pedal while holding the button will start the engine.
Press and hold both the brake and gas pedals until a "Service: Oil reset in prog." message shows on the instrument cluster display -- this message takes about three seconds to appear. Continue holding the gas and brake pedals until the instrument cluster display reads "Service: Oil reset complete," which will appear after about 25 seconds of holding the pedals.
Release the pedals, turn the ignition off and remove the key. For models with push-button start, press the "Start" button to turn the vehicle off.
