How to Reset the Change Oil Light on a 2001 Buick Park Avenue

The 2001 Buick Park Avenue was one of the first vehicles to come equipped with GM's DIC (Driver Information Center), which is now standard on almost every GM vehicle. The center lets you view important data about your Buick, including average fuel economy, engine temperature, tire pressure and oil quality. When the oil condition is suitable, the DIC will display "Oil Life Index Normal". When it's time for an oil change, the DIC will display "Oil Life Index Change Oil". You'll need to reset the system yourself after changing the oil.

  • Turn your key to the last ignition position (as far as the key will go without starting the engine).

  • Examine the area to the left of your steering wheel to find your DIC control panel. Look closely at the buttons to get comfortable with them.

  • Press the button labeled "Gage Info" several times, until the display screen shows "Oil Life Index".

  • Press and hold the button labeled "Reset" for six seconds. Turn the key back to "Off", and then remove it from the ignition.

  • Re-insert the key and start the engine. The oil life index will be reset; the light will be turned off.
