How to Change Chrysler Concord Transmission Oil

Transmission oil on your Chrysler Concord should be checked and changed according to your vehicle manufacturer recommended intervals. After a period of service, the oil becomes contaminated with metal, dirt and moisture. These particles accelerate internal components' wear and shorten the life of the transmission. Before this happens, follow these steps to replace the transmission oil on your Concord model.

Things You'll Need

  • Floor jack
  • 2 jack stands
  • Drain pan
  • Ratchet
  • Ratchet extension
  • Socket set
  • Shop rag
  • Solvent
  • New transmission filter
  • New valve body O-ring
  • Mopar silicone adhesive sealant
  • Mopar ATF+4 (Automatic Transmission Fluid) Type 9602
  • Funnel

Removing the Transmission Pan

  • Start the engine and let it idle for about 3 minutes to bring the engine and transmission to operating temperature.

  • Turn off the engine.

  • Raise the front of the vehicle using a floor jack and safely support it on 2 jack stands.

  • Place a drain pan large enough to cover the entire size of the transmission pan.

  • Loosen the mounting bolts from the transmission pan using a ratchet, ratchet extension and socket.

  • Remove the bolts from the transmission pan, letting the pan tilt down from one side so the transmission fluid begins to drain.

  • Hold the pan with a shop rag from underneath as you remove the last transmission-pan mounting bolts.

  • Lower the transmission pan, letting the oil drain completely on the drain pan.

  • Remove the transmission filter from underside of the transmission using a Phillips screwdriver or ratchet and socket, depending on type of bolts used on your particular Concord model.

  • Remove the O-ring from the transmission valve body.

Installing the Transmission Pan

  • Clean the transmission pan and transmission mating surface with solvent.

  • Install a new transmission filter using the Phillips screwdriver or ratchet and socket.

  • Mount a new O-ring around the transmission valve body.

  • Apply a layer of Mopar Silicone Adhesive sealant around the pan-mating surface following the product manufacturer instructions.

  • Set the transmission in place and start the mounting bolts by hand.

  • Tighten the transmission-pan mounting bolts following a crisscross pattern and just enough to allow the adhesive to create a tight seal between the transmission and pan. Use a ratchet, ratchet extension and socket.

  • Lower the vehicle.

  • Refill the transmission with Mopar ATF+4 (Automatic Transmission Fluid) Type 9602. Pour the oil through the opening of the dipstick tube using a funnel. See the Tip section at the bottom for more information.

  • Apply the parking brake and start the engine. Let it idle for about 3 minutes.

  • Move the transmission shift selector through each position and back to Parking.

  • Pull the transmission oil dipstick and wipe it clean with a shop rag.

  • Insert the dipstick into its tube and pull it out again. The transmission oil level should be between the Add and Full marks. Add transmission oil as necessary.

  • Turn off the engine.
