How to Replace a Jeep Commander Mirror

The side mirrors on the Jeep Commander are molded onto the mirror motor. This is located inside of the large mirror assemblies bolted to the upper corner of the door. Replacing the mirror may look difficult but actually, the mirror bolts into place using three studs molded to the end of the assembly and three nuts, located behind an access panel located inside of the door. Therefore, it takes very few tools and just a little time to change the mirrors on your Commander.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket set
  • Open the door of your Jeep Commander and roll down the window. To avoid damaging the paint on the door, you must have access to holding the mirror assembly while you remove the nuts that secure the mirror to the door. This prevents studs molded to the side of the mirror assembly from scratching the door.

  • Remove the access panel from inside the door by pulling outward on it. The access panel is in the upper corner of the door, directly opposite the mirror assembly.

  • Disconnect the electrical harness that connects the motor inside the assembly with the switch for the power mirrors. To do so, pull the two connectors apart.

  • Remove the three mounting nuts that secure the mirror to the door with a deep-well socket and ratchet. Remember to hold the mirror while you remove the nuts.

  • Pull the mirror out of the door and place the studs of the new mirror assembly into the door. Hold the door while you tighten the mirror into place with the nuts.

  • Reconnect the wiring harness to add power back to the motor inside the mirror assembly.

  • Place the access panel in place and strike it lightly with the palm of your hand to snap it in place.
