How to Replace a Driver's Side Mirror on a Ford F-150 Pickup Truck

The driver's side mirror on the Ford F-150 pickup truck is large and protrudes significantly from the side of the truck. Although the mirror is spring-loaded to reduce damage caused by impact with the mirror cover, the mirror glass inside the large plastic cover is prone to cracking when hit. Fortunately, you can remove the mirror without taking the entire cover off the door of your Ford. This makes repairing a broken mirror an easy task.

  • Push the mirror to the left. If the mirror is motorized, you may hear faint clicking when you push on the mirror. This is okay; you will not damage the motor. When you push the left side of the mirror you give yourself enough room to get your hand behind the mirror glass.

  • Pull the mirror glass out of the plastic cover. The mirror uses a ball and socket to allow turning inside the cover. Pulling on the mirror pops the mirror socket off the ball located inside the cover.

  • Place the new mirror inside the cover and line up the ball and socket. Push the mirror onto the ball with the palm of your hand.
