How do I Get a Tire Pressure Monitor on an Infiniti G37?

Tire pressure monitoring systems are known as TPMS units. These units are designed to let the driver know when there is a low or flat tire. This is a great invention because people really don't take the time to check the air in their tires until they have a blowout or accident. One big issue is that the TPMS units don't last forever. You can only expect to get about five years service out of them until the battery dies. When the battery dies you need to put a new one in the wheel.

Things You'll Need

  • Tire block
  • Jack
  • Jack stand
  • Lug nut wrench
  • Valve core tool
  • Tire machine
  • Diagonal cutters
  • 12mm end wrench
  • New TPMS unit
  • Locate a shady and level place to work on your vehicle. It's always a good idea to set your parking brake.

  • Wedge the tire block under one of the tires that you are not working on.

  • Pull the jack out of the trunk of your G37 and position it under the frame of the car that will lift the tire that you are going to work on. Keep in mind your jack spots are thoroughly described in your owner's manual. Jack up the tire and put a jack stand under it for safety.

  • Remove the lug nuts with the lug nut wrench that's in the trunk of the G37 next to the jack.

  • Pull the tire off the car and roll it over to your tire machine. Remove the air from the tire by installing the valve core tool into the valve stem and turning it counterclockwise.

  • Notice on your tire machine that there is a bead breaker on the lower right side. It is controlled by a pedal at the base of the machine. Roll the tire into the breaker and position the breaker where the tire and the wheel come together. Press the pedal and break the top bead.

  • Lift your tire and wheel onto the top of the tire machine and cut the rubber valve stem out of the wheel by cutting the bottom portion of the valve stem with the diagonal cutters. Be careful not to let the butt that you cut off fall into the tire.

  • Push down on the tire and install your new TPMS unit by inserting the valve stem end through the valve stem hole and securing with a 12mm nut on top. Tighten the 12mm nut with a 12mm end wrench.

  • Inflate the tire to the proper inflation using the tire inflation hose that is part of the tire machine. There is also an air pressure gauge as part of the tire machine, too, so you can gauge the proper amount of air pressure that you are putting into your tire.
