How to Reset the TPMS on a Pontiac

Pontiac vehicles equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) use radio and sensor technology to check tire pressure levels. The sensors transmit the pressure readings to the receiver connected to the computer system. If the system determines that a tire is low, a warning light appears on the display. After the tire is inflated to the proper pressure, the system must be reset so it can accurately monitor the tires. Driving on under-inflated tires reduces fuel efficiency and handling performance.

  • Park the vehicle and turn the engine off.

  • Turn the ignition switch to the "ON/RUN" position.

  • Press and hold the tire pressure warning reset switch until the TPMS light flashes on and off three times. The reset switch is located on the bottom of the steering column on most Pontiac vehicles.

  • Leave the ignition switch on for three to five minutes to give the computer a chance to reset and calibrate the system. Turn the ignition switch off.
