The Pontiac Grand Am is a midsize sedan. The car was first introduced by Pontiac in 1973, and the cars manufactured between 1985 and 2005 were all produced in Lansing, Michigan. For those people who own the Grand Am, it is important that they check the tire pressure of their cars.
Learn the weight load of your tires. In order to know if you have the appropriate amount of pressure in your tires, you must know the weight load, which is how much weight your tires can handle. The tires on the 2005 Grand Am are numbered P225/50R16 91V. This means each tire on the Grand Am has a weight load of up to 1,356 lbs. The more weight you carry on your tires, the more likely they are to lose air pressure.
Remove the cap. On the tire is a stem with an air valve. Take the cap off of this stem so that the air valve is visible. Put the cap in a safe place so you don't lose it.
Insert the tire gauge head onto the valve. Push the tire gauge unto the air valve. Wiggle the gauge around until you get it at the correct angle on the valve and so the air hissing sound stops. Wait 2 to 3 seconds before removing the gauge to read the tire pressure.
Look at the air pressure gauge and take note of the reading. Pontiac recommends the air pressure on its tires be a minimum of 26 psi and a maximum of 36 psi. Add or remove air from the tire if it does not fall in this range. If you do not need to add or release air from the tire, replace the cap on the stem.
Repeat Steps 3 and 4 on each of your other tires to make sure the proper amount of air pressure is in each one.
