How to Install Tire Chains Without Lying Under the Car

The time has come for a simple way to reach around the back of the tire and connect the inside link without getting under the car and fighting the chains in tight cramped places. As you can see from the video at www.chainbuddy.com, connecting the inside link is easy with only one hand.

Things You'll Need

  • The Chain Buddy Tire Chain Installation Tool Kit.
  • A set of standard tire chains.
  • Remove the chains from their box or bag with the Chain Hangers designed to prevent the chains from tangling in their container.

  • Layout the chains on the ground parallel to the tire with the hooks on your right side. Be careful to lay the chains out so the lever lock is towards you on the right.

  • Lay the chains over the tire centered on the tire side to side and front to back. Make sure all four ends of the chains are free from entanglement and accessable.

  • Open the Chain Buddy mat/carrying case and lay out the mat infront of the tire to protect your knees from the ground and elements. Remove the instructions card from the mat and magnetically afix it to the vehicle fender for easy viewing as a reference.

  • Remove the Chain Buddy mounting arms and attach them to the chains and attach the mounting arms together as shown in the video. See the Chain Buddy video at www.chainbuddy.com.

  • Attach the loading strap to the mounting arms as shown in the video.

  • Move the vehicle forward to rotate the tire and wheel counter clockwise about 1.5 feet to postition the tire chain hooks above the ground for easy access.

  • Reach around the tire with ONE HAND to the rear chain hook and feel for the two chain links to be hooked together. No need to lay on the ground and get wet!

  • Double check the postition of the chains on the tire for symetric placement. Remove the Chain Buddy from the chains and connect the outside lever lock.
