Jeep Wrangler Tuffy Trunk Security Deck Enclosure - 4-Wheel & Off-Road Magazine

Open-topped Jeeps are great for visibility off road, getting a wind-blown hairdo, and experiencing the world and its weather firsthand. Unfortunately, they are not exactly good at protecting your belongings. Loose items can get blown out during high-speed runs, become dust-encrusted if you're not the first guy in line of the trail ride, and even go missing thanks to the sticky fingers of unsavory characters (aka thieves). Tuffy Security Products is here to help with its new Security Deck Enclosure (SDE) for '87-'06 Jeep TJ, LJ, and YJ Wranglers.

Tuffy is known for its locking steel center consoles and underseat lock boxes. The SDE takes this a step further by converting the entire rear space between the wheelwells into a giant lockable box. Then by locking the tailgate of the Jeep, it in effect locks your valuables inside. No more worrying about tool bags or camping gear disappearing while you're at the beach, on a hike, or in a store or flying out while you're flying down the trail.

PhotosView Slideshow This YJ lives in Southern California, so most of the year it has a soft top or no top on. Protecting tools and gear was an important consideration. The Tuffy Security Deck Enclosure attaches to the inner fenderwells of the back of the Wrangler. A front panel is installed just behind the seats (your Jeep will now be a two-seater only). These three panels are bolted together from the inside, and they bolt to existing threaded holes in the tub. However, drilling and adding more fasteners is an easy upgrade. The top deck has a recessed tray that offers even more storage space, and it's strong enough to support some weight. The deck slides backward and then flips up for access to the supplies under it; when down, the locked tailgate keeps everything buttoned up tight. Though the trunk is secure from prying fingers and dirt and sealed with rubber gaskets, we wouldn't call it completely waterproof if you don't have a top on your Jeep. On either side of the box are two bolt-on trays. These would make good storage spots for things like tow straps or winch controllers that you may need to get to in a hurry, but we'd add some bungees to hold stuff down in them when wheeling. 131 1009 07 o+131 1009 jeep tuffy trunk security deck enclosure+jeep rear hatch view
