Wider Stock Wheels
I have a question regarding the wheels on my 1992 Chevy 3/4-ton eight-lug Suburban. I'm due for tires and do not want to stick with a stock-sized tire. I do plan on lifting the truck 2-3 inches eventually, with a 4-inch lift being the maximum. In the past I have had stock steel wheels widened but I have had no luck finding anyone locally who can do the work. Searching online didn't turn up anything, either.
The stock steel wheels are 16x6.5, which is pretty narrow. I've been running 265/75R16 Kumhos but would like something a little wider for now, with an eventual size of something about 34-35 inches tall. I want to keep a stock steel wheel, hubcap, and trim ring because I always liked that stock look on a truck with big tires. Does anyone out there sell an OEM-style steel wheel in 8- to 10-inch size? Also, I'd like them in different backspacings so I could offset slightly the difference in front and rear track widths without having to use spacers. Any help, info, or leads that you can give would be greatly appreciated.

You are not alone liking the look of stock wheels with larger tires. When done well, it looks awesome! I'm not exactly sure which stock-style wheels you have, as the popular Chevy Rally wheels were phased out a few years before your truck built. Regardless, a few companies out there will still widen steel and aluminum wheels—and with this type of modification, you want to be sure the company knows what it’s doing. I don't know of any company local to you, but the folks at Stockton Wheel Service (stocktonwheel.com) have been in business for a really long time and are known for doing all kinds of custom wheel modifications. They can widen your existing wheels and also make a set of wheels
