Mud Tire Shootout Seventh Place: Interco Super Swamper TrXus - Four Wheeler Magazine

"Super Swamper" is a name that is synonymous with extreme mud traction. However, extreme mud traction comes at a price. In the case of the Interco TrXus, that price is clear as day when you pull out on the pavement. Don't get us wrong-the pattern is street-friendly when compared to others in the Interco brand, but when pitted against milder-treaded tires such as the ones in this test, it exuded relatively high levels of harshness. In the dirt, the TrXus's rounded shoulder design enabled the tire to conform and flex despite a stiff E-rated carcass. The sound level produced by these tires on our 100-mile test loop hovered right around 82 decibels. In addition, the zigzag tread blocks gave the steering wheel a noticeable back-and-forth vibration at low speeds. Needless to say, we expected this from such an aggressive pattern. However, we figured the on-road sacrifice would be redeemed by stellar mud performance-but this was not always the case. The TrXus tires sometimes struggled on the slippery climbs, and when it came to sidewall bite, we were perplexed by how hard the tread worked to find traction. Despite the third highest score on our tractive element test, the tires failed to impress our test driver in the mud. The U.S.-made TrXus came in as the second-most challenging tire to balance of our test-one required more than 12 ounces of weights. These meats come in a wide range of sizes ranging from 31 to 38 inches, and are even available in a competition-only compound.

The Bottom Line
A good tread for a dedicated trail rig with an emphasis on rock, sand or snow, it requires attention to balance properly, and is much more at home in the dirt than on pavement.
