Synchrotech Dual Cone Synchro Design - Honda Tuning Magazine

Synchrotech Prototype Transmission 01

Since 2008, Synchrotech Transmissions Inc. has been building and supplying parts for the nations top race teams as well as inspecting, repairing, and prepping pretty every Honda/Acura transmission in existence. From mundane, automatic-equipped people movers to full-fledged track monsters, these guys have seen and done it all. Along the way they've managed to find enough time to develop some groundbreaking transmission internals that have been proven time and time again in the most stringent of environments. Their development of carbon-lined synchros became a smash hit with the D, B, H, and eventually K-series crowds as development continued.

At SEMA this year, CEO David Henson, along with James Ornelas had a brand new prototype on the table to share with the crowd. Taking the dual cone synchro design used by Honda for the K-series family, they've adapted it for the older B-series transmissions. From the factory, B-series transmissions (VTEC only, not LS/RS/GS) come equipped with a dual cone synchro design for just the 2nd gear. With the Synchrotech option, users will be able to arm all forward B-series gears with the dual cone design for increased longevity, less wear and smoother shift action. Henson reminded me that this was only a prototype, but some serious racing abuse has already taken place and produced outstanding results. The next step will be adding a few refinements and then it's off to production and expected to hit Synchrotech shelves in January 2014.

Also on display at the Synchrotech booth was an array of MFactory products including their well-known gear sets and LSDs. Synchrotech announced that after years of offering their complete line to customers, they would now serve as the official MFactory U.S. distributor.
