| Castrol Syntec Top Shop Challenge Update - Trash Talk
You've seen what the guys at AMS have started on with our 4G63 build up, now it's time to spy on the competition. We're not ones to brag but after seeing what the other magazines have we're pretty confident in what AMS can do. Right now the two magazines that will give us the biggest run for the money are Turbo and eurotuner.
Turbo is going to SP Engineering and we all know they are capable of making high horsepower 2JZ motors but since they switched it up to the RB26DETT out of the older Skylines it'll be interesting to see if they can hit the 1000hp mark. We found out they are going to stroke the motor to a 2.8 liter but when you compare it to our 2.0 liter setup, we still have the advantage. AMS can easily get around the same HP number as the RB but with way less displacement. The eurotuner shop, 034 Motorsport, is a little bit of an unknown to us. They are using a 2.3 liter motor out of an Audi Quattro. Don't know what we're talking about? Well neither did we since they probably only sold 6 cars total in North America with this setup. Word on the street though is that this motor can put out 800hp pretty easy.
We don't think the other magazines really have a chance; the guys over at Super Street are having Bisimoto build a F22 motor. Now this isn't a F22C from a Honda S2000, this is a F22A from the old school Accords and Preludes. Granted Bisi has done wonders in the drag racing world with this motor when it comes to all out power this old technology combined with going the naturally aspirated route isn't going exactly keep us up at night.
Going on to even OLDER technology are the Lowrider guys, we're not sure exactly what motor they are going with but no matter what it is it's going to have huge displacement and a push rod. Ace Machine is their shop they are using and is well known for making 1500hp motors but when you factor in their displacement at 7 liters and then add on the turbo multiplier its game over.
One of the bigger names in the competition is Cosworth who's building the motor for Sport Compact Car. They are using a VQ35DE out of a Nissan 350Z and interestingly enough they are going the naturally aspirated route. They have plenty of racing heritage especially with their F1 and Champ Car programs but we're not sure if that's going to have what it takes.
Lastly the magazine that has the most similar motor to us is Import Tuner; they are having G Dimensions build them a SR20DET. While really the only similarity with us is that this motor starts off at 2.0 liters we've yet to see one that's capable to get as much horsepower as the 4G63.Now that the competition has started and we've seen what the other magazines have we're pretty confident that we can take home the win.
