2006 Chevy Colorado Modifications - Silver Bullet

2006 Chevy Colorado Modifications right Front Angle   |   2006 Chevy Colorado Modifications right Front Angle For this month's Fantastic Four, we decided to pursue a basic '06 Colorado standard cab with the 2.8L four-cylinder no-frills budget cruiser. The major custom feature of the standard cab shortbed is when it is lowered, the Colorado maintains its proportional aggressive appearance. We hooked up with Brian Doyen at Hot Motorsports in Santa Ana, California, to spin the wrenches in front of our camera during the installation. The following pages show Brian installing a DJM Suspension 3/4 static-drop kit on the Colorado. To complete the package, Brian mounted and installed a set of chrome-plated American Racing 120 Series Trench 20x8-inch wheels, which were wrapped in Toyo Tire Proxes4 255/35ZR20 rubber. 2006 Chevy Colorado Modifications left Rear Angle   |   2006 Chevy Colorado Modifications left Rear Angle It's not a secret that increasing both intake and exhaust flow through the engine will improve the horsepower and torque. To achieve this, Brian installed a Volant cold air intake and Volant exhaust system. To improve the Colorado's leading edge, Brian installed upper and lower Carriage Works polished billet grille inserts, which replaced the factory plastic mesh grille. Check out how we transformed this budget Colorado into a stylish ride in just a day.

The only hang up on the DJM lowering kit was the front crossmember had to be notched to lube the DJM lower control arms front zerk grease fittings. The combination of the DJM lowered suspension and American Racing Trench 120 wheels wrapped with Toyo rubber made for definite cornering and braking grip. After returning to Hot Motorsports, Brian was assisted by Alonso Martinez, as they installed a couple of Carriage Works billet grille inserts, which transformed the factory Colorado front end into a more stylish leading edge. The intake and exhaust system improved both the sound and scoot of the Silver Bullet Colorado.
