In a recent interview with Jordan Lee, Chief Engineer and Program Manager for GM Small-Block Engines, he told us his team "created an engine that delivers exceptional power and torque," and he later smiled calling the new EcoTec 5.3L (L83 engine code) a "hot rod." He's rightfully proud of his engineering team's Gen V small-block V-8, as it truly is a technological achievement in the small-block's 58-year history. Ask any enthusiast, however, if an engine has too much power, and you're likely to get a scrunched up nose and a shake of the head. Is there such a thing as too much power? We think not, which is exactly why we jumped at the opportunity to add more horsepower and torque to a new 2014 Silverado.
"More" is a relative term, but we're not talking about a few or even a baker's dozen. With a new Magnuson MP1900 TVS installed on the EcoTec3 5.3L, we're getting a serious increase in power—as in more than 100 rwhp. MagnaCharger uses Eaton's latest sixth-generation rotor technology with a pair of four lobes and high-helix rotors to produce a highly efficient housing, which delivers instant boost and the low-end grunt that truck owners demand. With the included heat exchanger and built-in intercooler, the intake air temps are considerably cooler than a traditional supercharger and contribute to the high-power output and long-lasting dependability. Everything required to bolt the supercharger atop of the Chevy's new engine was included, right down to the last zip tie.
