Soften The Blow With Shin Shield

If you have never been unfortunate enough to ram your shin into the ball mount sticking out of the receiver hitch of a truck, consider yourself lucky - if you have then you’ll appreciate the simplicity and effectiveness of the Shin Shield. Andy Sanders, the inventor of Shin Shield, also fell victim to this common accident when he ran into the ball mount of his brother’s truck. That painful yet minor event set into motion the creation of a device that will not prevent or eliminate future leg collisions with a ball mount but will soften the blow.   |   BEFORE AFTER Andy Sanders’ final design of the Shin Shield is not too far from the original. It has a sleek design, one-time installation, does not interfere with hitch use, and softens any impact with the ball mount. Armed with his six-year-old son’s Incredible Hulk pencil and ruler, Andy immediately put pencil to paper and began the process of designing the Shin Shield. He was confident a simple device could be designed to solve this painful problem. Andy soon discovered the difficulties of taking a product from conception to fruition, so he teamed up with his longtime friend Jeff Macey to make the Shin Shield a reality. After several iterations, prototypes, conferences with materials experts, and manufacturing processes, the design of the Shin Shield was complete. The simple, one-time installation takes only minutes and does not interfere with the connection between the trailer and the hitch ball. The Shin Shield is a patented product designed specifically to reduce injury from accidental encounters with hitch ball mounts. A soft, rubber outer material cushions accidental impacts with the ball mount. The Shin Shield is designed with automotive-grade polymers to withstand most environmental conditions while exceeding the demanding requirements of Class 5 hitch ratings. The Shin Shield is designed to fit most hitch manufacturers’ products that are 2.5 inches wide with ball shanks up to 1 inch in diameter.   |   The Shin Shield is designed to fit most ball mounts that are 2.5 inches wide with ball shanks up to 1 inch in diameter. Also included is a polymer washer to fill any gaps in the ball mount. The obvious answer to eliminating shin encounters with ball mounts is to remove them when not in use. However, proper stowage of the ball mount is not always convenient or practical. But with a Shin Shield installed, accidental run-ins with ball mounts will be less painful to your shin.
