When you’re shopping for a twin diesel setup for your engine, chances are it’s not going to be an off-the-shelf kit. Scott Helpenstell at Screamin Diesel Performance helped us put together a twin-turbo kit for our LB7 and even had NIC Industries powdercoat it Bentley Blue so it would match our engine (see LB7 Rebirth: Part 1 in the January issue). The kit included a BorgWarner S475 turbo, hotpipe, downpipe, cold pipe, mouthpiece, intake pipe, passenger-side intercooler pipe, passenger-side up-pipe, turbo mount, and more.
| Scott Helpenstell at Screamin Diesel Performance recommends that before installing any tubing or silicone hoses, you should rinse the insides with warm, soapy water. By doing this, you reduce the chances of any leftover debris from the machining, sandblasting, and powdercoating process that went into the motor.
Battery Solutions
You may want to do something with your battery cables. If you choose to keep your second battery, you can use GM part number 15041310. You’ll be able to use your factory cables without extending them, just untie the loom as we did on the inside of the framerail and stretch them toward the passenger floorboard (this will most likely be the best option for you). Then, mount the battery tray as far forward on the framerail as possible. For our truck, we have Rocker Pods, so we can’t put the secondary battery alongside the framerail. The battery tray Scott supplies with this kit was used to support our third Optima battery, located along the passenger-side framerail underneath the bed of the truck. The small, 90-degree coolant tank bracket can be mounted to the firewall using the old battery bracket location. The side where the nut and bolt have been installed will go underneath the bracket on the coolant tank. It might be easier to mount the coolant tank finger-tight to the bracket first, before mounting the bracket to the firewall. Plumbing in the coolant hoses may be the best way to go after the majority of the kit is installed.
